First significant cold front of the season expected to hit western Idaho late Tuesday
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The first significant chilly change is coming by the end of the week as a series of cold fronts will bring a temperature drop.
For now, look for clearing skies and above-normal temperatures on Monday. We will see highs in the upper 60s. However, a strong front will approach western Idaho late Tuesday and Wednesday. This will bring showers to the valley and snow in the mountains above 5,000 feet.
The Long Valley could see about 1-2 inches of snow on Wednesday. Moderate snowfall accumulations (up to 6") over the higher mountains above 7000ft are possible.
Our highs will drop into the low 50s on Wednesday. This will be followed by even colder air on Thursday as temperatures dip to the upper 40s behind the Wednesday front.
After that, mostly sunny skies will return on Thursday and continue through next weekend, with highs staying much cooler as computer models keep us in a north flow. This is the conveyor belt that typically pulls in chilly air from Canada.
I would not be surprised to see highs in the 40s through next weekend. Rest assured, it will eventually warm up, but these are the dips we can see as we approach the end of October.
