A house fire in Haiku on Thursday afternoon displaced four residents and caused $320,000 in damages, according to the Maui Fire Department.
Crews received the call at 2:15 p.m. and arrived to find a two-story residence on Puniawa Road “well involved” in fire, MFD said. The narrow and steep roadway made it difficult for firefighters to access the structure. After confirming no occupants were inside, they worked to put out the fire.
The blaze was brought under control at 3:30 p.m. and extinguished at 6:37 p.m.
No injuries were reported, but four residents were displaced, and the Red Cross was called to assist.
MFD estimated damages at $320,000 to the structure. A damage estimate for the contents of the home was unavailable.
The cause of the fire was undetermined.
Two engines from Paia and Kahului and two tankers from Kahului and Wailea responded to the fire, along with a battalion chief.
